6.2 19/8

Last session in class. working on making my poster bolder and more impactful. Also, drawing the eye from the bird to the shoulder to make the connection at a glance.

I used type to draw the eye down through the poster

taking a look back at style, I need to look at type and font to enhance my poster and make it pop visually:

2.2 22/7

In critique today, i found out that my ideas are quite similar to other's ideas. I think they could be good starting points but i need to develop them into something a bit more unique and impactful.

We did an exercise with kitchen utensils, coming up with a huge array of ways to use them. This opened up my mind and hopefully i can use this type of thought as i try it flesh out my ideas into more unique and interesting ones.

In studio time i started to develop my ideas into some more metaphorical ideas, and into some more clear representations of social media and real life.
I decided to focus on a few aspects of social media, balance between real life and online life, and crown mentality. I started on a new idea involving a Beehive pattern to relate to the group mentality. I will develop this and my other ideas over the weekend

2.1 21/7

Class exercise today was to gather our images that we had collected and group them into categories.  Through the exercise me and my partner realised that we had done well with gathering imagery that more abstractly represented ideas around the topic. But we missed out on the tangible imagery. We had forgotten to include the actual devices in our imagery.

We then looked at juxtaposition, subversion/addition, and pastiche/parody. We analysed some images according to these persuasive techniques.

In studio time we came up with some of our own examples of juxtaposition, subversion/addition, and pastiche/parody.

1.2 15/7

Discussing our research from the previous day with other people was good to solidify the findings.
A lot of people seemed to have seen heaps of people using social media and technology excessively.

Debate:
The debate was really good fun and extremely helpful. I was arguing for social media, social media is social. This is the topic i was probably going to choose anyway and looking further into it through the debate made me passionate about the subject.
Our team managed to win the debate with some pretty great points.

After class i started some research on studies to do with social media, I am thinking of focussing on how social media is an enhancement to our everyday life. Social media is part of life rather than a separate life. I took notes in my workbook and these are some of the websites i went to:

Real life examples of issues relating to our topics:

Bus and Technology:
On my bus trip home from uni I took notes on how many people were consumed by technology on their bus ride.
I found that out of the 21 people that got on the bus, only one person was fully consumed by technology, with headphones in and talking on the phone and listening to music.
I observed 6 people that used technology but were not using it constantly.

Ihi: Closed, singular, unfriendly, unavailable.

Wehi: Comfortably alone, no pressure to have awkward small talk with people.

Music Stores:
I visited Rough Peel music store on Cuba St. The store made me think about the fact that people think about music as a file on our computer or phone from iTunes. The physical CDs, and records are not the norm anymore and they have become something more niche for music enthusiasts only.

Ihi: Small, Intimate, Unique, stocked full.

Wehi: Out of place, confused/overwhelmed, nostalgic.

Group of Super-stores:
The Porirua Mega-centre is a group of around 20 large super stores and chain stores. the main ones being The warehouse, Mitre 10, Briscoes and Harvey Norman. There are a few small businesses inbetween all the big stores such as hair dressers and a takeaway store.

Ihi: Variety, convenience, intimidating

Wehi: Excited, interested, comfortable.
