6.1 18/8 INTERIM 2

Group critique:
Putting my two posters on the wall, it was quite obvious that my poster has very low impact. I need to make my poster strong and impactful while still keeping the style that is working well.
I started experimenting with stronger colours and lessening the text and making it less redundant.

And also simplifying the text and creating impact with the imagery. Having a clear relationship with the two separate images is important.

I was also thinking about whether the twitter bird should be cropped or full, i'm not sure whether the connection is stronger with the full bird.

Peer Review
  • We peer reviewed the work that we had done after interim,  narrowing down our choices to choose one concept to carry on with. After developing my 'facebook window' and the 'twitter' concept and starting to mock them up on the computer, I really think that the twitter one is going to be more effective as a poster. When I show all of my ideas to people, the twitter one always really stands out to them. I would really prefer not to use the word 'shit' in my final poster, so I think I would like to try and find a way to use different words, or maybe use it in a more subtle way.

4.1 4/8 INTERIM 1

Group critique
Today we got into groups and discussed our 4 developed concepts
The people in my group really liked my window concept and my shitty thoughts concept

Summary of feedback

-Facebook window

  • it looks like it may be an advertisement for Facebook
  • looks like a puzzle piece
  • swap the window ares to be the space around the f, rather than the f itself
  • put the text in between the connections
  • too much white space
  • like the window concept
  • it's welcoming
  • feels connective and social
  • look at artist renee margritte for window
-Shitty thoughts
  • needs to be more shocking
  • put something inside the droplets
  • just one bird
  • the drops could be thought bubbles or bombs
  • "don't crap on someone's day"
  • size, scale, keep shape
-Social Experimentation
  • mouse wheel, cheese
  • mouse maze
  • compare to a computer mouse
-Plenty of fish in the sea
  • Change slogan to 'socialise offline'

6 hats
The 6 hats exercise gave us a tool to think from different perspectives.
I was in the white hat group, which had to talk about sugar-free jellybeans in a neutral factual way.
Our group was pretty quiet and we didn't talk much so I don't feel like I gained much from this exercise, but i brainstormed some ideas to do with my own topic and i will definitely carry on with this when i get stuck later on in the week.

Studio time
In studio time I determined about 4 ideas that I will work on and develop over the week until critique. I have the "window to connection", the "social experiment", the "twitter shit", the "be someone new", and the"school of fish".

Making the familiar unfamiliar examples

critique
Me and my partner went through our ideas and chose some that stood out and gave each other our thoughts on each of them.
notes:

Word + image
I think word and image will be one of the most challenging parts of the posters for me, coming up with snappy tag-lines is quite difficult for me.

Some examples:
"What's behind the cell phone?"
"Our children are consumed by media."
"Keep your shitty thoughts to yourself."
"Shitty thoughts."
"I don't need to know."
"Social Bubble."
"Erase the social bubble."
"Be someone new."
"Be your best self."
"Window to a community."
"Connect."
"Interact."
"Enter the freedom."

Random input

I found the random input exercise really helpful, it really got me thinking of different ideas. I think i have a good idea that came from a water tap. I got the word "filter" and thought of facebook filtering people's new feeds, i had heard of this before but decided to look into it and found it pretty interesting.

2.2 22/7

In critique today, i found out that my ideas are quite similar to other's ideas. I think they could be good starting points but i need to develop them into something a bit more unique and impactful.

We did an exercise with kitchen utensils, coming up with a huge array of ways to use them. This opened up my mind and hopefully i can use this type of thought as i try it flesh out my ideas into more unique and interesting ones.

In studio time i started to develop my ideas into some more metaphorical ideas, and into some more clear representations of social media and real life.
I decided to focus on a few aspects of social media, balance between real life and online life, and crown mentality. I started on a new idea involving a Beehive pattern to relate to the group mentality. I will develop this and my other ideas over the weekend
